Dental Bonding![]() Bonding involves applying composite resin that is plastic to repair a tooth. The aim is to rectify the appearance of chipped, discolored, decayed, or even fractured teeth. It is referred to as bonding since the process involves the bonding material being embedded onto the tooth. Reasons to Consider BondingDental bonding can help repair a variety of dental problems. Tooth decay is often responsible for the unpleasant appearance of teeth. Bonding can help fill in the space left behind by the removal of decayed matter and cover up discoloration from plaque buildup. Chipped or cracked tooth is another problem many people have to contend with. Bonding can help restore such damaged teeth to their full size. Most people find there are unsightly spaces in between their teeth. Large spaces cause plenty of discomfort, especially when chewing meat and other hard substances. Bonding could help eliminate this problem, filling in the unsightly spaces in the process. Uneven teeth may be a worry for you. By bonding your teeth, they can obtain better evenness. Preparation for Tooth BondingBefore having the bonding procedure done, it is important to visit our office dentist for some consultation. Unless bonding is being done to get a decayed tooth filled, anesthesia is not needed. After cleaning, the tooth is drilled to alter its shape. Our dentist then selects a composite resin tint that is an exact match, or close to the color of your tooth. The surface of your tooth is then roughened before a conditioning fluid is applied to it. This procedure is designed to help the bonding material stick onto the tooth. Once the liquid dries, a resin which is putty colored is then added to the surface. This is modeled and crafted to the required shape of the tooth. A laser light is shone onto it to make it hard. After that, our dentist will trim it further to give it the desired shape. Polishing is done to ensure the sheen maintains the same color as the rest of the teeth. Each tooth requires between 30 and 60 minutes for bonding. There are many benefits associated with bonding. Bonding is a very affordable dental procedure. While other dental procedures require lots of time for preparation, bonding can be done within one office visit. Another benefit of bonding is that very little tooth enamel is removed from your tooth. Since anesthesia is not often required, the cost remains low and recovery time quicker. Bonding treatments can last up to ten years with due care and regular visits to our dentist for dental maintenance.
