Dentures are replacements for missing teeth. Essentially, they are artificial teeth constructed to take the place of missing dentition in order to fill the missing gap and restore physical appearance as well as replicate the functions of the original.
Dentures often take a bit of time to create as they usually replace multiple teeth or a complete set of teeth. They can be either complete or partial and are often recommended to prevent the complete deterioration of the dental features due to the loss of some or all of the patient’s teeth. For clarification, complete dentures are recommended when a patient has lost all their teeth, while partial dentures are advised when there are still some surviving teeth.
The material for partial dentures consists of a plastic base or a supporting metal framework that holds the set of required synthetic teeth in position. Partial dentures are held with clasps and carefully setup rests which hold firm to natural teeth. Plastic partial dentures are recommended as emergency temporary placements which give room for the gum and jaw bone to heal and take form before a more permanent structure is obtained for restoration procedures.
These are manufactured with a plastic base, which matches the structure of the gum tissue. It comes with dental implants for a full set of teeth which are placed strategically on the jawbones for support. This provides a full set of synthetic dentition which is customized and adjustable for a perfect fit.
The Dentures Procedure
A healing period is usually allowed after tooth extraction or loss of tooth before the construction of dentures can take place. The process of making either partial or complete dentures is by taking impressions of the oral cavity using a flexible impressionable material. The impressions are then taken to our high-tech dental laboratory for analysis and construction of dentures. This process often requires multiple tests of models in the patient’s mouth to verify the fit. It also helps to establish seamless bites and chews, and take note of any discomforts.
The aesthetics of the dentures are also a major part of the trials. Typically, the trial dates may differ individually, depending on peculiar need. A tentative schedule would be once per week, spread over 4 to 5 weeks until a perfect and satisfactory fit is achieved.
For emergency situations, we provide temporary dentures (same day) to enable the patient to chew or speak better and to create balance within the teeth. This is valid until the permanent partial or complete denture is made and fitted to perfection.
